Having bored you to tears with my previous posts about my favourite horror movies, I’m trying to decide how to top myself. I’m working on a post about what I consider to be a horror film. I’m having a hard time trying to determine what is and isn’t horror. I think it’s a totally subjective topic and I’m sure I’ll miss the point. Input on the subject would be great.
It’s been pointed out to me, and rightfully so I might add, that I’ve contradicted myself by claiming Alien isn’t a horror film while John Carpenter’s The Thing cracks my top 20. What can I say, I’m a hypocrite. I think that I’m going to have to admit that Alien is a horror film after all; despite all of my previous objections.

While I’m a big fan of the genre, I have to say that most of the really successful films tend to blend the horror genre into a different creature altogether. Look at something like Silence of the Lambs, which to me wouldn’t qualify as a horror film, but definitely has horror elements.

I agree that Silence of the Lambs has definite horror elements but I wouldn’t consider it a horror flick either.
