Come on everybody, I don't think your grasping my point...

Can you really name THREE other movies, which follow this kind of serial killer sub-genre, that are better? (EXCLUDING SILENCE OF THE LAMBS or it's SEQUALS)

I've seen "Henry: Potrait of a Serial Killer", and of course "The Devil Rejects". All of these films make a good case for being the best of this forgotten horror sub-genre, but what else from this time period comes close?? NOTHING!

Remember, this movie was released in 1972! What did Wes Craven have to compare to? Maybe "Night of the Living Dead" had some effect on Craven, but nothing else in that era had the guts to kick the audience in the pants, and say "FUCK THE SOCIAL NORM!", "FUCK THE HORROR MOVIE MOLD". What do you people want? Some kind of sleezy, cheap ass, black and white "Return of the Mummy" bullshit?

You can't compare this film to the CG laden films produced today.

Think about this...

T Van, I found I Spit way more disturbing, but also pretty over-rated as well. I agree with mob that it may well have been quite shocking for its time what with the forced peeing and all. Kinda of likeFrankenstein or Psycho or The Bad Seed must of scared the crap out of people when they first came out (except those are actually, you know, GOOD). I had seen quite a few horror films by the time I saw Last House, and I'd read my share of true crime stories about crimes far worse than those in this film, so like I said; color me jade.

It seems that Last House is overrated from the comments. I'll still check it out sometime if I can get my hands on a copy. If it's anything like I Spit On Your Grave then I can safely say that I will not be a fan.

Last House on the Left, is one of those movies that does not really live up to its reputation. Sure it’s got a really nasty streak, but it’s not really any kind of classic. It could make the basis for a decent re-make, but with the current movie making climate being the way it is, I don’t think they will make it mean enough for it to really work.

I don't think that Last House really did anything gracefully, personally. The completely inappropriate musical cues really threw me, as they are so hilariously poppy and happy sounding. I guess it's supposed to be taken as a juxtaposition of the sounds versus subject matter, but I didn't feel it worked.

I enjoyed it okay, trying to take it as a time-capsule of what would've been very disturbing for the time, but beyond a cursory initial viewing, I don't see cracking this one out very often.

Hey Sikechick,

A lot of people love this movie because of it's dark and sinister feel. The movie doesn't set out to present itself as a "horror flick", but slowly works its way under your skin. Where else do you get to see a chick piss her pants, and another give lesbian lovin?

The Last House on the Left, is truly remarkable for it's time. It gracefully exploits the serial killer sub-genre.

I would actually love to see Last House but I've never been able to find it for rent on DVD.

I think Phantasm will probably be on its way sometime in the near future. It certainly doesn't need to be remade but, then again, most films don't need to be remade.

I think we are still in the heart of sequelitis for the Leprechaun series. Might be another 5 years before the remakes start. How soon do you think before Pumpkinhead or Phantasm get remade?

I would love to read your opinion on Last House. The movie is very highly regarded and many who love it often point to its 'disturbing' nature. I really really must be jaded because I didn't get that at all. I've seen better revenge movies on Lifetime. In fact, I was kind of bored for a good bit of the film.

But still, I love learning what others think of films. So if you get a chance, I hope you'll view it and post a review.
