Can you really name THREE other movies, which follow this kind of serial killer sub-genre, that are better? (EXCLUDING SILENCE OF THE LAMBS or it’s SEQUALS)

I’ve seen “Henry: Potrait of a Serial Killer”, and of course “The Devil Rejects”. All of these films make a good case for being the best of this forgotten horror sub-genre, but what else from this time period comes close?? NOTHING!

Remember, this movie was released in 1972! What did Wes Craven have to compare to? Maybe “Night of the Living Dead” had some effect on Craven, but nothing else in that era had the guts to kick the audience in the pants, and say “FUCK THE SOCIAL NORM!”, “FUCK THE HORROR MOVIE MOLD”. What do you people want? Some kind of sleezy, cheap ass, black and white “Return of the Mummy” bullshit?

You can’t compare this film to the CG laden films produced today.

I agree with <b>mob</b> that it may well have been quite shocking for its time what with the forced peeing and all. Kinda of like<i>Frankenstein</i> or <i>Psycho</i> or <i>The Bad Seed</i> must of scared the crap out of people when they first came out (except those are actually, you know, GOOD). I had seen quite a few horror films by the time I saw <i>Last House</i>, and I'd read my share of true crime stories about crimes far worse than those in this film, so like I said; color me jade. Sure it’s got a really nasty streak, but it’s not really any kind of classic. It could make the basis for a decent re-make, but with the current movie making climate being the way it is, I don’t think they will make it mean enough for it to really work. The completely inappropriate musical cues really threw me, as they are so hilariously poppy and happy sounding. I guess it's supposed to be taken as a juxtaposition of the sounds versus subject matter, but I didn't feel it worked.<br/><br/>I enjoyed it okay, trying to take it as a time-capsule of what would've been very disturbing for the time, but beyond a cursory initial viewing, I don't see cracking this one out very often.
